My journey to becoming a first time home owner.
My name is Katrina Moore I moved to Rock Hill South Carolina in June of 2013 homeless. Living from pillow to porch with 2 sons Jamaar at the time 12 and Marquis 1 and my unborn child Olivia in my womb. I was discouraged and alone. I had a long discussion with my Uncle Otis and he told me how much I would save if I invest in becoming a homeowner. Suddenly 3 days later he died in a motorcycle accident and, but my dreams of being a homeowner didn’t die with him. It did however, make this process very difficult.
On December 23, 2013 I moved into my very first apartment and I was overjoyed that I would be able to bring my baby to a place we could call our own. It was bittersweet because in reality it wasn’t mine I was renting. One evening I was shopping in Walmart and saw an old childhood friend Lisa an she told me about Habitat of Humanity, and how she building her house in York. She told me what I needed to do and the rest is history. This journey has not been easy but well worth it.
My Uncle would be really proud of me, but most importantly my children are proud of me and I’m proud of myself. God has really had his hands over me in the process and for that I will be forever grateful.
